Green Shoes Arts have been designing and delivering arts based projects in Barking and Dagenham and neighbour communities, specifically arts leadership programmes for young people and families since January 2009. We are constantly exploring new ways to build bridges between individuals and their communities.

The projects below have been developed and implemented based on specific needs:

The Arts Leaders project engages young people, aged 15-19, in positive activity, enabling them to learn the skills needed to deliver workshops and create a performance on youth issues. Arts Leaders also supports young people with a work placement, advice on further training and accreditation. Our first B&D Arts Leaders group are already known by a series of youth groups in the borough who have experienced their issue based workshops. The group is initiating the development of partnerships and possibly a youth theatre.

The Arts Leaders – Healthy Relationships Project is an arts project aimed at reducing teenage conceptions and births and preventing domestic violence amongst young people through an innovative theatre based peer education programme. This project works with young parent to create a documentary style film and with a core group of NEET young people to act as peer educators.

The Arts Days Project engages children and their families in a series of art activities giving them the opportunity to cultivate and/or explore their artistic skills. It aims to give children the chance to be creative and imaginative and spend quality time with their family.

The Family Play Days Project engages children and their families in a series of games giving them the opportunity to have fun and play together. The creative foundation of those games will encourage children to express their ideas and be imaginative.

The Make A Play Project aims to give a wider notion of theatre and an understanding of all the aspects that are involved in creating performance, with a hands- on approach. Children and young people will build their skills in creative arts, as well as use their time constructively to produce a performance.

Have a look at our education project page, as most of our projects can be adapted to be delivered in other settings.
